PAC Giving Criteria
Contributions to federal and non-federal candidates and political committees will be evaluated on the basis of their alignment with Thrivent’s purpose and values; will be bipartisan; and will take the following considerations into account:
The candidate’s committee assignments, leadership positions, and proximity of their election;
The extent of Thrivent’s presence in a candidate’s state or congressional district;
The candidate’s commitment to the values espoused by Thrivent, including empathy, authenticity, commitment, gratitude and impact;
The candidate’s demonstrated integrity, ethics, and support of democratic principles;
The candidate’s level of interest and/or championship for Thrivent’s policy priorities; and
Current events and the overall political environment.
We had some questions about what the term “democratic principles” means – here is our working definition:
Democracy consists of four key elements: a political system for choosing and replacing the government through free and fair elections; the active participation of the people, as citizens, in politics and civic life; protection of basic human rights of all citizens; and a rule of law, in which the laws and procedures apply equally to all citizens.
